Sr. Mary Beneenja, lovingly remembered as Mary Benigna and born Mary John Thottam, was a soul whose life blossomed in prayer, poetry, and quiet service to God. She was born on 24 June 1901 in the peaceful village of Elanji in Ernakulam District, where the beauty of nature and the rhythms of faith gently shaped her young heartwhere the beauty of nature and the rhythms of faith gently shaped her young heart.

  Responding to God’s call, she joined the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC), dedicating her life to Christ through prayer, education, and loving service. Within the silence of convent life, her heart found a voice in poetry. Her words flowed like prayerful songs, weaving together devotion, compassion, and the deep mysteries of faith.
